How long have you been playing?

I’ve been playing since the 6th of January 2006. That was the first day I discovered the world of Lineage 2, as a Male Elf Magician.

Give us a brief overview of what your gaming life was like before L2. What kind of games did you play, if any?

I was playing my Xbox 360 and played all kinds of games my father used to buy for me, lol. Football, Formula 1, Shooting Games…

How did you first discover the game and what ignited your interest?

My father started playing in 2004 when the game released. He then initiated my mother to play the game at home together with him. I was basically 7 or 8 years old at that time. I used to watch my mother play on her PC and I was very curious.

Then one day I asked my mom if I could try the game, just to run around on the map, so my mom and dad created a character for me on the 6th of January 2006 (I was 9 years old). The purpose for this my parents told me was, “Maybe you’ll learn English with this game.” We are from Belgium and we speak French, so it was kind of good training for me at that age. That’s how it all started for me and since that day, I still play the game with my mother which has contributed to our amazing relationship. It also contributed to a lot of trolling in-game, which is quite fun!

What ignited my interest was that the game was easy to understand and it was very beautiful to look at. The open world was always amazing in L2. I could pass my day just running around on the map and looking at the mobs, the sky, and all the areas that existed.

After getting familiar with the game, what kept you coming back to L2? What makes L2 stand out compared to other games?

I never ever quit Lineage 2. The only breaks I took were due to vacations/holidays or real life stuff that made me play less for a time. But I was always around and never stopped ever.

I have tried other games, other MMO’s, but Lineage 2 is truly not comparable to any other game. Even 18 years later I can’t find any game that gives me the same motivation to play every day. Everything about it is special. This is why we have so many faithful players. I’m not the only one who thinks that. The gameplay, the open world, the chat, interactions of all sorts, the way the game looks, and the mechanics of PvP are truly unique.

I always say to people who leave the game, that one day they’ll come back because of the memories and that they won’t find anything similar elsewhere!

◆Favorite Memories◆

Hero Status

The first of my favorite memories from L2 that I thought about was the day I got hero for the first time ever on my character Andouille, on the Tyrr DoomBringer class. I always loved the Olympiads so it was a great achievement for me back then.

PvP

One of my other favorite memories was the Endless PvP we used to do before Goddess of Destruction when Level Cap was 85 and all we did when we logged in was PvP in all sorts of zones of the map, like Giant’s Cave, just for fun.

Vorpal Set

And another one of my favorite memories was when I bought my Vorpal Set after saving Adena for over a year. Back then, I felt so much accomplishment.

◆Favorite Events◆

Rabbit Transformation

One of my favorite events in Lineage 2 was an event where every day u could transform yourself onto a rabbit on Fantasy Isle for a few minutes, and had to use a skill to make Chests spawn and drop rewards. It was like hide and seek, and with the amount of players it was really competitive and fun at the same time.

Cougar Spawn

Another event was Cougars you had to spawn in town and make a party to kill them with a specific skills. I remember we used to do that all day long. The Draco event was similar and just as fun and rewarding!

And one last event was when at a specific time on the server, somewhere on the map rabbits randomly spawned everywhere and the whole server was looking for them, and once we found them, we had to chase them down because they were dropping tons of goodies! Fun times.

Has L2 ever crossed over into your real-life? Do you have any stories of meeting up with players or making life-long friends?

Back in 2012/13, I received a message in-game from a guy who saw my shouts in the Hero chat and he asked me some things about the game and wondered if I spoke French due to my name “Andouille”. Naturally we chatted and found out we were both in Belgium (which is very rare to find here). He was playing with his brother for a few weeks on the server and they were about the same age as me so we became friends very quickly. They were new, so I could share my experience and knowledge with them which I always enjoyed doing in general. We made a Constant party, and we played every day for several hours, killing raid bosses, PvPing for bosses, and just chatting.

Their parents decided to relocate and by pure coincidence they moved 1 mile away from where I was living in the city. So that’s how I became best friends with him and his brother. We still see each other and casually go drink beers and take drives and have fun together. So clearly L2 had a huge impact on my life in general.

I have also played with a team of Greek players for 10 years now, if not more (shoutout to ConanTheCimerian, SMTIME, GreatAnitor, DeadPe0ple, Carnaya). They are also old school legends in this game! And I met some of them in October 2023 on a trip in Switzerland. After playing with each other for 10 years, we finally met and we had one hell of a weekend together that will stay in my mind forever!

◆Character Spotlight◆

What makes your character special and stand out from others?

I have always set up my character’s items/goal and progress toward PvP, because I believe that the main fun in the game is the PvP mechanic itself. I have learned every class skill, function and ability, and I learned over the years that if you want to have an advantage in a situation or win something you must be aware of everything and know what to use in what situation.

The game offered us an Open Market, where people could make shops, buy and sell items, produce items, compounds, enchant, and many more different mechanics. This is one of my biggest roles in Lineage 2. I was always chasing the good promos, I always loved math and statistics, and I have books full of notes just to know if something is worth enchanting, buying, or selling.

So I would say that my character standout from others is knowledge but also the gear/equipment that I’ve acquired after 18 years of playing on this server. Some people may think that I have spent a lot of money on the game but I was just a kid with a dream after all and I always loved the game’s competitive aspect.

As a result, one of my roles on the server was to always provide knowledge and share it with whoever needed it. I made many contacts and friends just by explaining how some mechanics work or just by helping people in general to price an item or to understand something specific. I think that my character is an example of how dedicated one player can be and how time and knowledge can make you achieve things. I am trying to be a reference and a sort of Wikipedia for players of all sorts.

What impact do you think your character makes in the community?
My name in Chronos is very popular today because I have no doubt that most people have already bought something from me inside the game. People used to call me the “Giran NPC” because I was all day long playing the market to produce/buy/sell items, and that’s how I got most of my items in-game and got so powerful. All of this makes me somewhat believe that it made me different from others at some point.

I have always enjoyed leading, and playing with friends or a clan, because this game can’t be properly played alone at the end game. I was always very talkative and always loved to chase goals and bring competition inside the game with other enemy clans. At such a level you always have a lot of fans and a lot of haters. It’s a part of the game I also enjoy. I can have endless discussions and debate over the way the game is or what we all do to achieve our goals.

Do you have any fun rivalries or fun stories with specific players?

One of the biggest rivalries I’ve had with a specific player is another Tyrr warrior, a guy named Brevant. When he started the game he was reaching out to me for information and tips because he pretty much liked my gameplay and my character. He wanted to both play with me and be as strong as me.

The story took another path when he joined my enemy clan (Nova) and we became long-term rivals. This led to comparisons of our power and there was like two teams on the server, Team Brevant or Team Andouille. We’ve always PvPed each other and enjoyed winning/losing on sieges/Olympiads because we had goals to get stronger and to perform better.

There is always a bit of trash talk and disagreements on some type of behaviors but never any hard feelings. Losing can be frustrating but it pushes me to get stronger everyday so my shoutout goes to that player in Chronos (I will probably get trolled for saying that from all my enemies).

◆The Road Ahead◆

What hopes do you have for the future of the game?

I hope that quality of life of the Lowbies get better. If a player starts the game they should be able to enjoy it and progress up to lvl 110-120 without any specific issues. That means the game should provide enough resources without spending money to progress, for the first few months. The beginning is when people test out s game and decide if its enjoyable to play. If a player feels rewarded over time, they may decide to spend money later in order to progress in PvP/PvE for high end content.

The solution for me would be to add more Bound items (not sellable) to each character when they start and progress through the quests so they have enough power to keep progressing step by step and then the option to “spend money” to get stronger for PvP or high PvE content. This would be a key to bring back players.

I hope this game stays fun and alive forever because we have an amazing community! I also hope that Rownen continues his work through the suggestions and listening to players’needs.

How has L2 and the community changed over the years?

We all got older! On a serious note I think the community stayed the same, we are just more in touch with each other since Discord’s appearance and the infinite number of WorldShout everyday in-game. Maybe there is less of us than before due to people leaving but we are still a great community and I believe that we are all here for a reason!

Is there anything you would like to say to the community?

First of all, thanks to everyone for making this game live for 20 years now. Some of us grew up with this game and saw people and friends evolve over time. That’s what makes it amazing. Thanks to everyone I came across, all the fun talks, debates, fights and endless time spent inside this game. Nothing can ever replace that.

A special thanks to whoever, near or far from me, who always supported and helped me and trusted me for anything. The trust some people gave me really warmed my heart.

And thanks to everyone who are trying every day to make this game more and more enjoyable. We can clearly see the player’s dedication here, because once again, nothing can replace Lineage 2!
