“What really hooked me was the character design, the world design and the PVP!”

How long have you been playing?

I have played Lineage 2 since the Korean open beta. I played on Bartz for a few years from opening day and have bounced around servers since then.

Give us a brief overview of what your gaming life was like before L2. What kind of games did you play, if any?

Before Lineage 2 I was always into games like Diablo, Fallout, and a MMO called Shadowbane.

How did you first discover the game and what ignited your interest?

I heard about the game from some friends at a LAN party. We then spent the weekend figuring out how to play the game in Korean for their open beta. What really hooked me was the character design, the world design and the PVP!

After getting familiar with the game, what kept you coming back to L2? What makes L2 stand out compared to other games?

The world, the fantasy level, and character design. I really enjoy it when you have healthy servers and get to have large fights with hundreds of people. Mass PVP in this game is a lot of fun especially in the classic versions.

◆Lineage II Through the Years◆

Tell us some of your favorite memories from L2.

My favorite memories from L2 are usually tied into large groups of people working together to achieve something. Finding a good leader and a good Clan that push each other to be better. Sometimes it's just goofing off and laughing with everyone.

I can remember taking over Cruma Tower on Bartz the first few months of the server, fighting anyone who tried to get in, and establishing our rule of the server. It was unique to me in that there was only one entrance to this great farming spot so we could simply kill anyone else who tried to enter. I was hooked!

Berserk was also the first clan in NA to take down the Ant Queen and Orfen as well, which was so much fun. I wish I could find my pictures from back then, but it took every person in our Clan working together and really planning it out to be able kill these bosses. They didn’t really have any information out about them.

Recently though I really enjoyed the start of Blackbird and playing with Chopper in The White Order. Chopper is a really fun leader to play with - he's always pushing everyone to improve and really delivered on that big Clan experience. Oftentimes the determining factor in winning an encounter vs losing was if Chopper was in the lead or not. We had some huge fights with FrankieDeckard in the dimensional sieges that were so chaotic and fun!

What are some of your past favorite events?

I really liked the Cross Check event, the Valentine’s event and events that have guaranteed items like if you try 20 times you will have enough fragments to buy the full item. The Cross Check event and Valentine’s event were nice because we got a lot of good, free stuff and everyone could participate. The guaranteed items I like because gambling can be fun, but it is really frustrating to not have any options EXCEPT to gamble for getting a certain item, so it's nice to know there is also a set price tag.

Has L2 ever crossed over into your real-life? Do you have any stories of meeting up with players or making life-long friends?

It has definitely crossed over into real life since I started playing it with irl friends! One of my favorite memories from in person was going to E3 and getting to meet some of the GMs. I remember I got to meet Head GMSpam and another GM who had hung out with us in Cruma! They knew who we were by our character names and all of us got to nerd out for a while. I loved it and they gave us these cool Lineage 2 coke cans and some other swag. I thought that was so neat for a video game to have that.

How has L2 and the community changed over the years?

The biggest shift I have seen over the years is moving from the subscription model to a gacha model. The game has always been gambling heavy in its systems but not in the sense you were opening boxes for real money, that seems to be a gaming wide thing not only L2. The community has always been pretty rough around the edges, lots of egos and toxicity but those are just the most vocal. I have always been able to find friendly people who just want to work together and have fun on every server.

What makes your character special and stand out from others? What impact do you think your character makes in the community?

Hm, well, I am a solo player mostly since TWO left the server, so I tend to do my own thing! I do try to be positive in my interactions with people on the server as well as outside of it so hopefully that’s how I come across to others, but I do not know how much of an impact, if any, I have on the server or community.

Why do you like the game type you are currently playing (Live, Aden, Classic)? Have you always played this game type? Is there a reason you changed?

I like that Aden does not require you to run separate buff characters and you can constantly make progress even solo. The game is a lot more fun in a big active Clan having wars and stuff but it also takes a lot of time, energy and coordination.

Have you always been the same Class as you are now? If not, why did you change? Why do you like your Class?
I am one of those players who will usually pick a meta class. I like making progress and if there is a clear advantage to another class I will switch to it. Currently, Assassin gives me the most XP but if that changes so will I.

Are you in a clan, if so, what clan are you in?

Currently a solo player, but the first 18 months was spent in The White Order while they had a presence on the server.

What made your Clan special? What was your Clan’s reputation or role on the server? Do you have any fun stories or favorite memories about your Clan?

The White Order was probably the most organized Clan I have ever played with. I really enjoyed that they pushed hard for all the important content and were not afraid to drop everything and go PVP for hours to win. TWO is the Clan to beat. They will always be pushing for the top when Chopper is in the lead. I really enjoyed the dimensional sieges on Aden fighting Epidemic and FrankieDeckard.

One of my favorite moments fighting Frankie was in the middle of a big push up the center of Aden. We were getting wiped, and Chopper was pushing us to just get back and keep fighting, “Don’t even buff, just get back!” So of course I ported in, macro dashed to Frankie and got the killshot while recording!

What hopes do you have for the future of the game?

I would love to see the anti-cheat systems really work to combat third party programs as well as lowering the barrier of entry for some of the costs related to this game.

Is there anything you would like to say to the community?

Thank you to Rownen and his team for giving me this chance to reminisce and share some of my nostalgia. Rownen and his team have really been engaging with the community a lot recently on Discord and it has been refreshing! I really enjoyed getting to play through this Aden server with everyone, enemies and friends alike. I have met some really nice and thoughtful people during my time here. Some people that really stick out to me though that I would like to mention are HoneyBunz, Nips, Chopper, Gritty, TDA, Ardi, Eulogy, Slurpee, Aralyn, and OrcSmash. I have had a lot of fun playing with all of you and look forward to the next time we play together!
